A barn conversion turned ground up pool house

I can remember the sunny afternoon nearly 14 years ago like it was just yesterday. The plan was to convert the barn into a small guest cottage by dropping walls onto the existing roof footprint. As I watched my husband, Matt, do the “light demo” to get ready for the project I gasped as I watched the roof collapse to the ground! He yelled up to me “termites”. He decided to start from scratch due to the termite infested structure. So there began our first project at the “Trail’s End”.

This was truly a blessing in disguise for us where we learned the ins and outs of a ground up project. We were committed to completing this project on a modest budget, so truly embraced the “sweat equity” part of building and designing. Matt and I worked together to come up with a functional and all inclusive floor plan embracing the open concept before it was a trend. The “Casita Adriana” was named after our first daughter and hosted friends, family and Airbnb guests over the years. We have such fond memories and learned so much in the process.
